When I close my Eyes

When I Close My Eyes” is a song inspired by an iPad app. Corrinne explains : “Claire (her daughter) has this iPad app where a little girl imagines doing these extraordinary things whenever she closes her eyes, things like reading her favorite book in space or being the fastest runner in the world. I figured I’d do my own version of what I’d love to see if I closed my eyes to dream.”

The song also features an unusual blend of music instrumentation.

I heard, in my mind, a gospel choir singing back-up on the chorus and also had in mind the Irish whistle for the instrumental solo. It’s not everyday that these two elements get thrown into the same song, but I’m glad that it turned out just as I’d hoped.”

When I close my Eyes
Corrinne May

I
When I close my eyes
I can see a rainbow
The colors all dance
Like beautiful halo
No longer walls
Between one or the other
And love is just a prayer away
When I close my eyes

II
When I close my eyes
I see no more abortion
No more violence to the voiceless children
Big or small, every life has a reason
The truth is just a prayer away
When I close my eyes

Refrain
Banish all our blindness
You are the only way
Strength in all our weakness
Break these chains
See the saints and angels praying as we bleed
Through the eyes of faith
Lord, I do believe

(Repeat Refrain)

III
That when I close my eyes
I can see you smiling
You’re free as a bird
And you're laughing and dancing
No longer chained
By the burdens that held you
I know you're just a prayer away
When I close my eyes
