This plaintive melody begins with the voice of Fr Jess Fernandez, beloved Jesuit priest, pillar of the Marriage Encounter movement, and founder of the Ephpheta Foundation for the Blind. He spent his entire life in love and in service, embodying the message of this chant. His simple but stirring voice reminds us of one of the basic principles in the Spiritual Exercises ? that all things must be used to love and serve the Lord, because all things come from Him, are imbued with Him, and find full perfection when used for Him.
Fr Manny Uy, SJ, former director of the Ateneo de Iloilo-Sta Maria Catholic School, commissioned Fr Manoling to compose a new anthem for their school. This chant is the refrain of the school's much longer anthem, whose verses are a dramatic musical narrative of the school's history.
This chant may be sung during prayer assemblies, and is appropriate for many parts of the Mass. It may be sung as an entrance hymn, for the Preparation of the Gifts, for Communion, and for the recessional.
